Voelker Gray Design delivers 60 years of wisdom and experience in spa concepts, spa resort master planning, and a full spectrum of architectural services. From pre-planning consultations to complete design packages, from renovations to new projects, we help bring vision and opportunity to life.

Good design is an essential ingredient for success.

Award-winners Todd Voelker, architect, and John Gray, spa industry visionary, combine their expertise to achieve synergistic spa and resort designs that seamlessly meld exterior and interior spaces to evoke rest and wellbeing. They bring fresh perspectives in their designs of properties where guests feel the best of themselves drawn out — soothed, uplifted, rejuvenated — integrating reverence for the natural world and qualities of local cultures. Todd & John provide a seamless construction document process by bridging the gap between traditional spa designers and the architects who must interpret their designs.

Of course there’s more to the recipe.

At Voelker Gray Design, we listen carefully and intuitively to our clients’ visions and goals. We strive to blend esthetic beauty and operational effectiveness. Add budget-conscious integration with our clients’ business plans. Stir in solutions for compliance and technical issues within the overall vision. Season with well-travelled, international perspectives. And cook until done, usually ahead of schedule. We pride ourselves on getting it right from design to detail.

About Us

Todd’s and John’s creative collaboration began at a spa industry conference on 9-11-2001 and developed for the next 7 years with John as Glen Ivy Hot Springs’ visionary and Todd as Glen Ivy’s architect. Voelker Gray Design was a natural outgrowth. The sparkling synthesis of their wisdom and experience in architecture and operations positions them to deliver inspired solutions in spa and hospitality design.

T.S. Voelker Architecture, Irvine, California stands on the foundation of Todd Voelker’s more than three decades’ experience in hospitality design. His award winning projects have been featured in Hotels Magazine, Hospitality Design, Contract Lighting, and American Spa, and include the Cabo Azul Resort in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Cancún Caribe Resort in Las Vegas, a variety of medical esthetics offices and fine medical spas, and numerous projects for Glen Ivy. Todd also brings a depth of successful experience in restaurant, retail, and custom residential design. He holds a Master of Architecture degree from Arizona State University where his eco-friendly design philosophy first took root. Todd is also an accomplished percussionist and worked his way through university playing gigs, recording, and teaching drumming. He especially enjoys the collaborative spontaneity and improvisation in jazz, qualities that often inspire his original architectural designs.

For over 30 years John was President and Chief Executive Officer of Glen Ivy Hot Springs, Inc. near Corona, California. Glen Ivy first came into commercial use in 1860 and has a rich and storied history, but both business and property had fallen on hard times and nearly closed as John’s tenure began in 1977 when he founded the present-day Glen Ivy Hot Springs corporation, which since 2016 has been owned by GOCO Hospitality International. With John’s vision and leadership, Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa, “Nature’s Day Spa,” was gradually renewed and revitalized.  Within the Spa industry and beyond, John is respected as a visionary leader in the innovative design of memorable spa experiences, and Glen Ivy is a well-known success story. In 2007 John began shifting his focus from running Glen Ivy to business development and consulting. He now applies his decades of operational experience and design expertise to creating new spa and hospitality experiences for others. He also enjoys being a grandpa, serving on his city’s planning commission, traveling with family, and is a published author.

VGD provides owners a powerful package of capabilities integrating programming goals, operational efficiency, architectural design, interior design and team coordination of the technological expertise required to deliver outstanding hospitality guest experiences.
